I Looked Like my Mother…

I looked like my Mother??

One day I woke up, looked in the mirror and (surprise!) I saw my mother looking back at me! It was then I realized… yes… I looked like my mother.

There is a Story Behind This…

I was Daddy’s girl. To me, he walked on water. And he was (in my eyes) the handsomest man alive – he reminded me of James Cagney! LOL

My Dad was a farmer

Understand… my Dad’s personality in front of friends and strangers was one of smiles and polite words. But in the family, he could have an explosive temper at times. (No, I would not call him abusive physically — but his yelling was frightening!)

My (younger) sister, Sue and I learned to keep out of sight whenever we could. We did not like to be yelled at!

But he was Dad. And he was so handsome! And I loved him…

My Mother was beautiful – but for many years, she took second place in my heart. And most definitely (in my eyes), I did not look like my mother!

The “Police Brought You”

Anybody remember the album (yes – a vinyl album) featuring (the now infamous) Bill Cosby, “To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With”?

When we were teens, (my sister and I) listened and laughed at this very funny record, playing it over and over again.

You have to understand, my sister slept in twin beds in one bedroom. At times… as it goes with most siblings… we had our sibling rivalry. For the most part, my sister was my best friend, although you wouldn’t have guessed that! There were times we jokingly used the “To Russell” dialogue to tease one another…

So, our conversation might go like this, “Your foot is on my side of the bed…” (Hysterical laughing…)

Over the years I frequently (teasingly) reminded her, “the police brought you.”

Why would I say such a thing to my dear, beloved sister?

My sister (right) and me… and our pet raccoon.

Well, other than her voice, she didn’t look like any of the rest of the family. Some use the saying “the milkman is your father” – (funny, my dad being a farmer, this was true… in both her and my case! LOL)

But no, I teasingly told her… “The police brought you.” And if you recall on the “Russell” album, Cosby’s brother Russell was crying and upset beyond words… And, like many “babies” in the family, Russell ran crying to his parents asking, “Did the police bring me?” (Boo-hoo-hoo!)

A very funny segment.

So what does “the police brought you” have to do with looking like my mother?”

As I explained earlier, I thought my Dad was the handsomest man in the world… and I truly believed that I must look like him. In fact, I actually believed this for years…

But fast forward 35 years later…

One day…

I woke up…

and looked in my bathroom mirror…

and I saw…

MY MOTHER!!!

I didn’t look like my father at all! I looked like my mother! (Oh the pain!!)

Then… I looked at my sister…

who I thought didn’t look like anybody in the family…

and I realized that…

SHE…

looked like…

MY FATHER!

Funny Story, Yes?

So I’m thinking you may also have a similar (not same) story from your past growing up life…
